Job Description:
Under the supervision of the CFO this position provides leadership, direction, decision making, activity planning and oversees the functionality, workflow, and day-to-day operations of customer services/financial counseling/patient admissions, including billing, cash posting, insurance follow up, denial management, and non-surgical scheduling. This position also establishes monitors and analyzes departmental service standards for patient interactions, in person, over the telephone or other communication technology; to ensure superior service while meeting or exceeding department goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manages fifteen or greater FTEs (15+), and is responsible for ensuring their work output is satisfactory and their concerns are resolved. Is responsible for all hiring and related personnel decisions, completing performance evaluations, training, promotions, scheduling and staff meetings
• Works with HR to resolve employee issues such as performance/attendance issues, FMLA, and terminations
• Oversees the collection of cash for patient services via the phone, Web Portal or other technology utilized by Arkansas Surgical Hospital
• Analyzes associated technology performance reports, and reports findings as appropriate as well as overseeing work quality and monitoring compliance
• Identifies billing errors, and follows-up with staff members/third party payers to ensure resolution
• Identifies opportunities for process improvement throughout the entire revenue cycle operation by recognizing issues based on changes in patient inquiry trends and provides timely feedback to peers in operational areas and leadership to achieve optimal results
• Ensures staff members are properly addressing cases where patients needing services have no medical insurance (referred to as self-pay).
• Maintains in-depth knowledge of policies, procedures, government assistance programs and laws relating to medical insurance/patient billing and collections to create policy, improve procedure and resolve staff escalated payment discrepancies
• Ensures staff members are provided with ongoing training to handle patient calls/correspondence at varying levels of complexity
• Acts as a Revenue Cycle liaison to outsourced services business partners that interact with patients
• Conducts one on one meetings with Supervisors and others to ensure productivity and accuracy and to ensure consistency in quality and productivity while meeting departmental goals. Reports any discrepancies or issues to the Director
• Oversees the distribution of work assignments among staff and assists in determining work priorities
• Encourages employee participation in process improvement through communication and feedback with respect to departmental needs
• Monitors all billing and coding trends for issues. Works with internal departments and medical offices to offer solutions and assist in meeting revenue goals
• Assists in the development of new procedures that focus on improvement of workflow efficiency
• Assists Supervisors as needed in the training of new employees within the department. Assesses the technical competence of current employees and suggests additional training when needed
• Maintains strict confidentiality in regard to patient’s personal, medical and financial information
• Acts as a role model of Arkansas Surgical Hospitals Standards of behaviors and values through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times.
• Maintains, revises and updates electronic policy and procedure manual as needed in conjunction with Director or CFO
• Maintains regular monthly reporting
• Performs other duties as assigned

• 5-7 years progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations required
• Minimum 2 years supervisory experience required, which includes experience hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, developing and engaging staff members
• Experience tracking and analyzing workflow and data and implementing process improvements required
• Experienced in leveraging technology to create efficiency and increase productivity
• Experience handling escalated customer complaints, and executive level inquiries required
